As a veterinarian in Cannock, I've seen my fair share of interesting animals. From a hedgehog with a penchant for ice cream to a parrot with a love for heavy metal music, there's never a dull moment in my clinic. But perhaps my most unusual patient was a pot-bellied pig named Balthazar. He had quite the personality, often expressing his distaste for his diet by intentionally knocking over his food bowl and grunting in protest.
One of my favourite parts about practicing in Cannock is the proximity to Cannock Chase. It's not uncommon for me to get calls from hikers who have stumbled upon an injured animal while on a walk. Last summer, I received a call about a badger with a broken leg. I hiked out to the location and carefully brought the badger back to my clinic. After a successful surgery and a few months of rehabilitation, I was ecstatic to return him to the wild. It's these moments that make my job so rewarding.
But it's not just animals that make my job interesting. I've also had my fair share of interesting encounters with pet owners. One day, a woman brought in her chihuahua, Princess, who was experiencing some abdominal pain. After a thorough examination, I discovered that Princess had swallowed a diamond earring. The owner was mortified and kept apologizing, exclaiming that she had no idea how Princess had gotten ahold of her expensive jewelry. I couldn't help but chuckle as I removed the earring from Princess' stomach.
All in all, being a vet in Cannock is a unique and rewarding experience. From caring for exotic birds to hiking through the beautiful Cannock Chase to performing diamond surgeries on chihuahuas, every day is an adventure.
