The Edge of Fear: A Thrilling Encounter in Ruthers of Howe

A remote village in Caithness hides a dark secret

Ruthers of Howe, a secluded village nestled in the heart of Caithness, was always shrouded in mystery. People whispered about the strange occurrences that took place there, and dared each other to venture into the village after dark. But I was not afraid. My curiosity got the better of me, and one stormy night, I set out to uncover the truth.

As I made my way towards the village, the winds howling around me, I saw a figure emerge from the shadows. The sight of the mysterious stranger sent shivers down my spine. He beckoned me forward, and I followed him to the edge of the village, to a place known as the 'Edger'. It was said that those who dared to venture too close would never return.

I hesitated, but the stranger's steely gaze compelled me forward. With each step, my heart beat faster, and I felt a sense of foreboding growing within me. It was then that I saw it - the 'Edger' - a gaping chasm in the earth, its depths shrouded in darkness. The stranger vanished, leaving me alone at the edge of the abyss, as fear took hold of me.

And then I heard it - a low, guttural growl that seemed to come from the depths of the earth. I turned to run, but my feet refused to move. I was frozen with fear, staring into the inky blackness of the chasm. As the growling grew louder, I realised that I was not alone. Something was coming for me, and it was hungry.
