When I first heard that my new job would have me working as a developer in Shopwyke, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical. After all, I'm used to the hustle and bustle of big city life, not the quiet charm of a West Sussex village. But I have to say, after a few months here, I'm absolutely smitten. There's just something about coding in a place where the cows outnumber the people that makes the work feel more meaningful.
Of course, working in a village like Shopwyke does come with its unique quirks. For example, instead of grabbing lunch at a trendy cafe, I usually make myself a sandwich and head out for a walk in the nearby fields. And instead of dealing with traffic on my commute, I have to navigate around the occasional herd of sheep. But honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. There's something peaceful about the slow pace of life here that makes the work day feel less stressful.
That's not to say that life in Shopwyke is completely without its challenges. For example, last week we had a major power outage that lasted hours, thanks to a particularly strong gust of wind taking out a power line. I ended up having to work by candlelight for a few hours, which was certainly a new experience for me as a developer. But hey, that's part of the fun of living out in the countryside.
All in all, I feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity to work as a developer in Shopwyke. It's not a life for everyone, but for those of us who enjoy the peace and quiet of a small village, there's really no place like it. Plus, where else can you code while listening to the gentle mooing of cows in the background?
